Congratulations on your babies! I have a "runt", she was much smaller, quite lethargic and slept alot. But she gradually came out of her lethargy (i made sure she was eating and drinking) although she is still smaller than the others (they are all 24 wks old now) she behaves normally (except for being one of 3 omega birds), so there is hope for yours.
Regarding Knuckles, I have not experienced toe problems but I think someone posted back in the spring about taping pieces of toothpicks to the toes to straighten them so you could try that, in addition of course to putting down a coarse, nonskid bedding. The "Silly Putty" (do you have that in Australia?) sounds like it is worth a try also. Best of luck with all of them and keep us posted on your progress.
What predators do you have to worry about the most?

Arianne,
I think its too soon to think about putting this keet down. When one of my Orpington pullets had surgery from a broken leg, then a cast, when the cast came off her toes kept curling up because the nerves were inactive for so long. A physical therapist gave me a tin of TheraPutty to use with Tiffany. I pressed her foot into a small puddle of the putty (its like silly putty), also put some on top of her foot. The putty gave the right amount of weight to keep the foot down, plus locked the toes in place.
I had her on the kitchen floor at 10 minute intervals until finally everything stayed in place and she didn't need it anymore. I don't know if this would work if its a nutritional or chemical deficiency from birth.

I have a very similar set up to what you describe.

Owls aren't a problem (or haven't been) during the day as they are nocturnal.

Hawks are everywhere in the woods "waiting" or flying across the yard and or field. They even frequent the yard.

I fear the red tails the most. The cooper hawk didn't take any this year but he had been coming around at the time the genz were returning to their coop for the night. Yes he knows where they live and they chatter so much calling every predator for miles around.

Boat air horns do work. Available at the big W in the sporting goods dept. One does have to set off a pretty good blast though. I had a red tail pinning the genz down in the woods not quite knowing where he was. While I twirped the horn several times I actually had to be within 10' of the base of the tree he had perched on. I only saw him just before he flew away.

Thanks. After reading everybody's thoughts, I think this weekend I will go to Lowe's and get some 8 x 4 panels and screw them over the enclosure for winter. They could be easily removed in Spring. I had not done that as I used to not let my birds free range and wanted them to have the light and outside environment. Now they go out each morning anyway and come in at night. I was late last night in putting them up, and they were all sitting in there waiting for me. Thanks again.

Sorry about the fires.
That is good news about the birds. You still have a long season to have even more guineas!
If the curled toe keet is still young, you can try the tape on his feet...or keep him on rough material to see if his toes get straight. Newspaper is a no-no.
Other wise it is a judgement call.
I know some have had the tiny ones grow up, but none of mine ever made it to adulthood.
Good luck!
