that's why you have to set their leg watches back for daylight savings for them because they don't know to do it for themselves unless you have the radio on in the coop.
Seriously, though, mine know enough to go in when dusk is approaching, even on cloudy days. I thought perhaps its because they were raised with chickens and those always go in when time is right, whatever time of year.
What I usually forget to do is to change the timers on the lights.
