How long 'til they forget ?

My flock of 6 is now a flock of 4. All birds are 5 months old.

After the 2 girls left Saturday at 10:00, the 4 guys were in the coop and squawked a lot for about an hour. Then they quieted down. At about 3:00 I let them out. They were fine for 20 minutes or so, then started up. Even primping in front of their window reflections didn't quiet them down, so I put them back in.

On Sunday they were quiet in the coop, and we had company. My friend mentioned how much quieter they were than usual (friends visit about every Sunday morning), so when we went out, I let the birds out. Squawk-city. Put them back in after half an hour. As long as they're in the coop, they're fine. Could it be they think the girls are outside when I let them out?

It was recommended that perhaps I should put them in lock down for a while. I imagine they will quiet down outside after a few days, but I'm hoping to avoid as much chaos as possible drinking smiley.

I'm looking for opinions on lock down. Should they stay in the coop for a day, two, three? Should I just follow their usual schedule and be letting them out? How long before they forget about the girls? A week? I don't want to have to give these guys away, so the sooner they get over their lost loves, the better.
